October 20, 2024 Conservation of the roof

Oh, things are happening… in our Ka-Plica!

After studying the documents we received from the previous owners, we decided to protect the roof truss as soon as possible with appropriate insecticides. It would be a shame if the new roof fell off, because it had nothing to hold on to.

Several places required a good cleaning. We uncovered the floorboards in the attic to check if there were any hidden treasures as well.
After agreeing to a 50/50 deal with the team doing the work, if anything were to be found there, the gentlemen set off on a few weeks of work.
A professional vacuum cleaner and brushes were used to thoroughly clean the truss from dirt and dust from the insects.
Unfortunately, under the planking we found only rubbish and leftovers hidden there by the previous teams renovating the roof.
We were very disappointed and surprised by the ingenuity of the builders from the 90s.
The only discovery worth mentioning was an old German newspaper from 1910.
The pages that survived probably served as some builder’s breakfast paper and gave us a lot of joy.
Reading advertisements from 200 years ago is very instructive and a bit funny.

Sometimes I would like to go back to those years when everything was simpler and time passed more slowly.

How are the remaining renovation works progressing?
